IRELAND NABBED AN equaliser in their World Cup qualifier against Austria, with Jon Walters smashing home a volley to secure a draw.
In an attack that started deep inside Ireland’s half of the pitch, a long ball was sent forward and, after a race for possession, Walters found himself in a one-on-one situation.
He took a second to compose himself, and rifled a volley into the bottom corner of the net to restore parity.
Moments later, it looked as though Shane Duffy had clinched the winner.
A corner was floated into the Austria penalty area and, after a scramble on the goal-line, Duffy headed the ball into the roof of the net but the referee’s whistle intervened to call for a foul.

Ireland had trailed at half-time, courtesy of a strike from Martin Hinteregger.
The visitors looked threatening in the opening exchanges and they finally broke the deadlock just after the half hour mark.
David Alaba delivered a low ball from a corner which found Hinteregger in the danger area.
Slack defending from Stephen Ward allowed Hinteregger to get the shot off and Randolph was powerless to get a hand to the ball.
